Summary:

Perimenopause, referred to as “menopausal transition” by the North American Menopause Society, starts with changes in the length and duration of menstruation triggered by endocrine fluctuations. The transition may last for four to eight years and ends with the final menstrual period. This continued education module describes the normal changes that occur to a woman’s reproductive system as she ages. It also offers ways to help women manage unpleasant symptoms of perimenopause.

Objectives:

The goal of this continuing education module is to improve the knowledge of physicians, nurses, dietitians, fitness professionals, and health educators about the recognition and availability of treatments for perimenopausal symptoms. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Identify four common symptoms experienced by women in the perimenopausal years
  • Discuss the current recommendations for use of hormonal therapy
  • Name the three groups of non-hormonal prescription medications used to treat vasomotor symptoms

The course was very informative; especially being a woman and dealing with other woman who are going through this phase in their life. There is so much conflicting information to deal with at times; this helped to weed out the non-factual based information and learn the evidence based findings. Definitely helpful in dealing with a rough topic!
