Regular exercise presents many benefits to a society that suffers from an epidemic of obesity and chronic illnesses. Elements of exercise and safety guidelines are presented to empower people to implement exercise into their daily habits.

Objectives:

The goal of this physical activity/exercise continuing education program is to provide nurses, dietitians, dietary managers, school nutritionists, fitness professionals, health educators and respiratory therapists with current physical activity/exercise guidelines for healthy adults. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Describe the benefits of physical activity/exercise
  • Discuss the four elements of an exercise prescription
  • List exercise safety guidelines

The recommendations have bounced around a little depending on the study referenced so it is nice to have the most widely accepted guidelines
