Course Overview

Bulimia nervosa (BN) is an eating disorder related to a lack of control over eating, eating more than most would eat at a given time, and recurrent or inappropriate methods used to prevent weight gain (APA, 2013). Recurrent episodes of binge eating are associated with emotional distress, a sense of loss of control, and compensatory behaviors associated with the need to get rid of the excess calories consumed during eating binges. Most patients have normal body weight, making recognition and diagnosis difficult. Preferred treatments include cognitive behavioral therapy as well as antidepressant medication therapy. However, relapse is common. The goal of this course is to provide knowledge about the clinical aspects of managing patients with BN.
