Course Overview

Ultrasound is a commonly used modality in physical therapy clinical practice. It has been suggested that ultrasound can produce thermal and non-thermal biophysical effects. Ultrasound is thought to improve pain control, tissue extensibility, wound healing, fracture repair, tendon and ligament healing, and resorption of calcium deposits. This module will outline the application, purpose, and current evidence for therapeutic ultrasound on musculoskeletal injuries in clinical practice.
