Breast cancer treatment typically includes surgical intervention such as breast-conserving surgery (lumpectomy) or mastectomy. Occupational therapy can provide pre-teaching and post-surgical intervention when working with people who have breast cancer. This course focuses on surgical interventions for breast cancer, the impact of surgery on occupational performance, key recovery issues, and potential complications after surgery.
Amy has been a practicing occupational therapist for 23 years. She is a two-time breast cancer survivor and co-author of the book Now What? A Patient’s Guide to Recovery After Mastectomy (Demos Health, 2012). Amy is the mother of two daughters and an avid horseback rider.
