Supervisors wear several hats, sometimes more than one at a time. Clinical expertise, practical experience, and management training do not necessarily prepare healthcare professionals for an essential task: how to train people. Supervisors typically need to provide ongoing training to staff members, covering a variety of topics such as organizational procedures and profession-specific content in a way that motivates employees to learn. This course explains that adult training requires teaching methods different from those of childhood education. It prepares supervisors to create educational sessions that all audience members can understand, addressing all learning styles and skill levels.
The goal of this continuing education program is to help the dietitian, athletic trainer, fitness professional, health educator, laboratory professional, occupational therapist, radiologic technologist, and respiratory therapist manager understand how adults learn, so they can develop effective education and training activities. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
- Compare and contrast the learning methods of adults and children
- List adult learning principles and styles of learning
- Identify various effective teaching methods for adults
- Write an effective behavioral objective
