Giardia is one of the most common intestinal parasites associated with diarrhea. It spreads through contact with infected individuals and contaminated water and food. Infections can be prevented, but if infected, treatment can mitigate major complications.


The goal of this educational program is to provide laboratory professionals with information about Giardia infections.
After taking this course, you should be able to:
  • Describe Giardia, its epidemiology, and clinical presentation
  • Review the different approaches to identifying the organism in the laboratory
  • Discuss treatment, prognosis, and prevention
