Physical Therapy (1.00 Hour(s))

Summary:

Lymphedema is a chronic, incurable and debilitating disease. A healthy lymphatic system adequately transports and drains lymph fluid from the interstitium in the human body. A damaged, obstructed or compromised lymphatic system allows proteins from lymph fluid to remain in interstitial tissue. This accumulation of protein-heavy lymph fluid in the skin results in lymphedema, otherwise known as “lymph-swelling.”

Objectives:

The course will be discontinued on June 30, 2020. Please plan to finish the course by June 29th if you wish to earn credit for it.

The goal of this lymphedema continuing education program is to improve rehabilitation physical therapists’ knowledge and understanding of lymphedema prior to educating their patients. After studying the material presented here, you will be able to:

  • Discuss different intervention and prevention options
  • Describe two effective ways to educate patients about lymphedema
