Summary:

Obsessive-compulsive disorder behaviors and thoughts are intrusive, inappropriate, and repetitive causing extreme distress. Post-traumatic stress disorder is associated with persistent, recurring reliving of a traumatic event. OCD behaviors and PTSD can be highly debilitating conditions severe enough to impact activities of daily living and quality of life. Previously, these disorders were categorized as subtypes of anxiety disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition: DSM-5. These disorders are now considered Trauma- and Stressor-Related Disorders in DSM-5. The goal of this continuing education program is to update healthcare professionals’ clinical knowledge regarding identification of OCD and PTSD, incidence, etiology, and treatment while minimizing toxicities.
