South Dakota Office of Emergency Medical Services Requirements

South Dakota requires National Registry certification for entry into the state EMS System.  For license renewal licensees have the option to use the national or state recertification. 
Continuing education hours must be earned and used within the same biennial recertification period (April 1st-March 31st).  44:05:03:05.07.
 
National Continued Compentency Requirement (NCCR) to maintain NREMT certification and South Dakota state licensure. 
 
Requirements for Paramedics:
60 hours every two years.  Chapter 36-4B-27.
 
Requirements for Advanced EMTs (AEMT):
50 hours every two years.  Chapter 36-4B-27.  44:05:03:05.07.
 
Requirements for EMTs:
24 hours every two years.  44:05:03:05.07.
 
Requirements for EMRs:
16 hours every two years.  44:05:03:05.03.
