Summary:
Currently there are more than 250,000 women under age 40 living with breast cancer and 13% of all cases a year are diagnosed in women under the age of 40. Issues surrounding screening, diagnosis, treatment, including surgery, radiation and chemotherapy are discussed with the young patient in mind. In addition, young women are concerned about the risk of treatment on fertility, sexuality, and lifelong complications including fatigue.
Objectives:
The goal of this presentation is to help healthcare professionals understand varying aspects of treating the younger breast cancer patient — including screening, treatment, and progression of disease. At the end of the webinar, participants will be able to —
- Explain what Young Womens’ Breast Cancer is and what knowledge experts have about it.
- Name three treatment options for the young woman with breast cancer.
- Recall at least three things about young survivors of breast cancer that are unique.
