Summary:
Developed by renowned breast cancer physician Dr. Susan Love, this program offers a historical look at the old ways of treating breast cancer (all cancers are the same and a one-size-fits-all treatment is used) to new ways (including not only the cancer cells but the local and systemic environment that encourages growth of the cancer). Local and systemic factors include hormones, inflammation, physical activity, stress and nutritional factors). While it is currently known that at least five different kinds of breast cancer are diagnosed, the cause remains elusive as more than 80% of women with breast cancer have no risk factors. The author encourages women to advocate for clinically relevant research for the cause and for best treatment outcomes for breast cancer.
Objectives:
The goal of this program is to provide healthcare professionals with an update on breast cancer research, including new ways of thinking about breast cancer development, classifications, screening and treatment, as well as research participation. Upon completion of this webinar participants will —
- Understand how the change in our understanding of the biology of breast cancer affects our clinical approach to screening and treatment
- Gain insight into how women can reduce risk of breast cancer and its recurrence through lifestyle changes
- Gain an appreciation of new approaches to advocacy and participation in research
