Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and the second leading cause of death in women. Today there is more focus on prevention strategies, targeted treatments and survivorship. Prevention strategies include mammography screening, genetic testing, biopsy, new drug therapies and surgical interventions. Targeted treatments for breast cancer depend on the type and staging of cancer, and the authors review the latest research on treatment effectiveness, as well as adjuvant therapy such as endocrine therapy. Survivorship issues will play an increasing role in healthcare delivery. In the 1940s, 25% of patients with breast cancer were alive after 10 years; today the figure has increased to 75% or higher, depending on the type of breast cancer. Lifestyle interventions for well-being and treatment for side effects of surgery, drug therapy and radiation are explored for breast cancer survivors.

complete the course, you must achieve a score of 75% on the multiple-choice exam.
You may retake the test as many times as necessary to pass. To complete the test
process and receive your certificate of completion, you must complete a brief survey
about the course material and process. After completing the evaluation, you may
immediately print your CE certificate of completion or save a pdf of it for your
records. You may also request a copy to be sent to you by mail. Certificates will
reflect the time and date the user passes the test (Eastern Time, U.S.). In the
event of loss, there is no charge for a replacement copy of a CE certificate.
