This module provides EMS professionals with information about suicide, including many of the features seen in the prehospital presentation of a suicidal patient; definitions of different types of suicidal behavior; key risk factors; and procedures for dealing with a suicidal person.
Objectives:
The goal of this continuing education program is to provide EMS professionals with information about suicide, including many of the features seen in the prehospital presentation of a suicidal patient, definitions of different types of suicidal behavior, key risk factors, and procedures for dealing with a suicidal person. After you study the information presented here, you will be able to:
- List and define the different types of suicidal behavior
- Identify the major risk factors for a patient to attempt suicide
- Describe the key elements for management of the suicidal patient by prehospital professionals
