Nicholas Lorenzo, MD

Senior Vice President, Educational Initiatives

Nicholas Lorenzo is Senior Vice President of Continuing Education with a primary focus on live and online healthcare content and LMS development, expansion of the workforce grant project, and development of new content delivery products and systems. Dr. Lorenzo received his BS with Honors from Creighton University in 1984. He received his MD from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine with High Distinction in 1988. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society in 1987, completed the Honors Program, and was a Regents Scholar while attending the College of Medicine. Dr. Lorenzo completed an Internal Medicine internship and Neurology residency at the Mayo Clinic in 1992. He also completed additional post-graduate training in neurophysiology, peripheral nerve disease and research, and ophthalmology at the Mayo Clinic (1992-1995) and the University of Kansas Medical Center (1997-1998). Dr. Lorenzo has clinical training and experience in the following areas: Neurology, Neurophysiology, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Primary Care, Healthcare Legal Consulting, Healthcare Information Technology, and Healthcare Education. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

In 1996 Dr. Lorenzo co-founded eMedicine (now part of WebMD), the most trafficked professional healthcare website in the world. While at eMedicine, he was the Chief Publishing Officer and played a key role in content development, software development, pharmaceutical and hospitals sales, and corporate development and management. It should be noted that over 10,000 healthcare professionals were recruited to and participated in content development for eMedicine. Dr. Lorenzo is also Founder and CEO of a multistate clinical neurology consulting firm since 1995. He was also Founder and CEO of an Urgent Care Staffing Group in the Minneapolis/St. Paul MN area from 1989 thru 1995. Dr. Lorenzo is also Founder and CEO of a multistate healthcare legal consulting firm (1995 – present). He has over 15 years of live lecture, traditional publishing, and online health education experience and has presented over 1000 live lecture courses over this time period. He has also been extensively published in journals, books, online medical references, and the lay press.

In 2002 Dr. Lorenzo co-founded PearlsReview and recruited over 100 nurses and other healthcare professionals to the project. Since 2002, PearlsReview has developed 19-full day, live nursing ANCC accredited certification review courses in addition to over 1300 ANCC accredited contact hours of online courses. In addition to hospital online subscription sales of PearlsReview content, Dr. Lorenzo spearheaded the effort to assist healthcare facilities obtain workforce grants to fund live, on site healthcare training. He has also played a key role in the development of two healthcare software learning management systems (LMS) both at eMedicine and PearlsReview. Since its consolidation with the Gannett Healthcare Group, Nursing Spectrum, Nurse Week, CE Direct, and Nurse.com, Dr. Lorenzo has continued his duties with PearlsReview as the Senior Vice President of Continuing Education.
